Matt Pocock Skills

Small, composable agent skills for real engineering work.

Matt Pocock's skills repository collects the agent skills he uses daily, designed to be small, adaptable and model-agnostic as an alternative to process-owning frameworks. Skills include /grill-with-docs (builds a glossary and ADRs), /to-spec, /to-tickets, /implement, /tdd (red-green-refactor), /diagnosing-bugs, /improve-codebase-architecture, /triage and /retro. They install as plugins for Claude Code, Codex and GitHub Copilot, or via skills.sh as editable files.

Pros & cons

Each point cites its sources and says what kind of evidence backs it. A second reviewer tried to refute every claim before it was kept.

Pros

  • DocsSmall, composable, model-agnostic skills (tdd, to-prd, triage, grill-me) meant to be edited, not a process that owns your workflow.[1]
  • User reportsUsers praise the grill-me interview skill, and one calls it much better than plan mode.[1][2]
  • User reportsA setup skill writes ADRs and a few pointers into AGENTS.md instead of keeping separate agent-only docs.[1]
  • DocsInstalls as a self-updating plugin, or via skills.sh as editable files you update by hand.[1]

Cons

  • User reportsIts /code-review skill clashed with Claude Code's built-in skill of the same name (closed July 2026).[1]
  • User reportsWorkflow gaps: /implement had no completion step, so finished tickets were never marked done, and answers from grill sessions aren't traceable through PRD to implementation.[1][2]
  • User reportsBehavior varies by model: Codex asked a user 200 questions, and GPT 5.5 often jumps straight to implementation after /grill-me.[1][2]
  • User reportsAn analysis of trending skill packs calls its TDD skill sharp but copyable, so the value is mostly curation and the author's reputation.[1]
Best for
Engineers who want a few sharp, hackable skills (requirements grilling, TDD, triage) rather than a full framework.
Watch out for
Check for command-name collisions with your harness's built-ins, and tune skills per model.
