Claude Code Router

A local model gateway and control plane for coding agents.

Maintained by musistudio

Claude Code Router (CCR) gives coding agents including Claude Code, Codex, Grok CLI, Kimi CLI, Kilo Code, OpenCode and Pi one stable local endpoint, while users manage providers, models and accounts centrally. It supports retries, credential pools, key rotation and ordered fallback models; adds capabilities such as vision fusion, web search and MCP tools; and logs routes, latency, token usage and cost. Supported APIs include OpenAI, Anthropic Messages, Gemini, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Moonshot, Mistral and custom compatible providers.

Pros & cons

Each point cites its sources and says what kind of evidence backs it. A second reviewer tried to refute every claim before it was kept.

Pros

  • DocsA local gateway that gives Claude Code, Codex, Kimi CLI, OpenCode, Pi and other clients one endpoint routed to the providers you choose.[1]
  • DocsAdds retries, credential pools, key rotation and ordered fallback models.[1]
  • MetadataMIT-licensed with about 38k stars.[1]

Cons

  • User reportsAbout 950 open issues, and API-error reports from mid-2025 ("A.map is not a function", "Missing model in request body", HTTP 500) are still open.[1][2][3][4]
  • User reportsUsers call the transformer customization docs too vague, with no script examples.[1]
  • User reportsBehavior varies by provider (e.g. Kimi K2 and Gemini proxies), which has led to long troubleshooting threads.[1][2]
  • MetadataNo push since 2026-10-10 despite the large open-issue backlog.[1]
Best for
Developers who want Claude Code and other agents to run on alternative model providers with fallback.
Watch out for
Expect per-provider quirks with tool calls; test each route before relying on it.
