The Agent Client Protocol (ACP) standardizes communication between code editors and coding agents, using JSON-RPC messages; the current stable protocol version is 1, with wire compatibility negotiated at initialize. The repository publishes the Rust schema crate and JSON Schema artifacts, and official libraries exist for Kotlin, Java, Python, Rust and TypeScript. The project site lists supported agents and clients and links to Zed Industries and JetBrains. Not to be confused with IBM's Agent Communication Protocol.
