Buzz
Self-hostable human-agent workspace on a signed Nostr event log.
Buzz is a self-hostable workspace from Block where humans and AI agents share the same rooms. It is built as a Nostr relay, so every message, workflow step, review approval and git event is a signed event in one log with a common identity model and audit trail. Agents get their own keys and channel memberships and can open repos, send patches, review code, run workflows and orchestrate other agents. Its agent surface includes buzz-cli (JSON in/out), buzz-acp (an ACP-to-MCP harness for Goose, Codex and Claude Code) and buzz-agent.
Pros & cons
Each point cites its sources and says what kind of evidence backs it. A second reviewer tried to refute every claim before it was kept.
Pros
- DocsAgents get their own keys, channel memberships and audit trail, so you scope them by identity rather than broad permission flags.[1]
- User reportsEarly users say shared channels and canvases work as long-horizon memory across engineers and agent sessions.[1][2]
- DocsRust, Apache-2.0 and Nostr-shaped (signed events, no blockchain), backed by Block.[1][2]
- DocsUnifies chat, patches, CI and approvals as one searchable event stream.[1]
Cons
- MetadataA very large backlog (about 1,694 open issues) for a project started in March 2026.[1]
- User reportsAgent replies sent via buzz-acp can be silently dropped, and agent allowlist edits don't persist.[1][2]
- User reportsManaged agents can only be mentioned from the machine that runs them.[1]
- User reportsHN commenters are sceptical of the quality and longevity of a largely AI-built GitHub/Slack replacement.[1][2][3]
- User reportsSelf-hosting needs Docker, and Windows users report setup papercuts.[1][2]
- Best for
- Teams experimenting with humans and agents sharing one channel-based workspace with real identity and audit.
- Watch out for
- Message-delivery bugs and pre-1.0 maturity; don't move critical team communication onto it yet.
